THE SONG

The song “Perfect” by Ed Sherran will go down as one of the classic love songs of our time. It signifies how the beauty of a love that evolves over time can shape a person’s life and tie our experiences together in a meaningful way. Ed Sheeran writes about his high school sweetheart and the time that spans between their introduction and their inevitable falling for each other. As many of you know, I met my wife Erika in grade school. Our love story was a long one, as the best ones usually are, and it wasn’t until our college years that our relationship began to resemble the love and commitment that we share today. A love like ours was certainly worth waiting for. 

The second love of my life is the Grenache Noir grape. Grenache is my favorite because it’s adaptable, versatile, always bright and full of fruit. It’s tolerant to a wide range of growing conditions and creates a variety of great wines, ranging from rosé, to light and heavy reds. It can take oak, but it doesn’t require it.  Grenache was the very first wine I made as an independent winemaker for good reason. I always put my heart and soul into making the absolute best Grenache year after year, searching for perfection. 

THE WINE

100% Grenache from two vineyards– Paper Street and G2 Vineyard. 85% destemmed and aged in 40% new Hungarian oak barrels, 40% once used French oak, and 20% neutral oak for 28 months. These were the very best Grenache barrels of the 2020 vintage. On the nose, candied lavender, spices such as cinnamon, bergamot, and cloves. Swirl the glass to reveal hints of strawberry purée and toasted caramel. The palate introduces cherry, leather, christmas spices, and caramel drizzled on top of strawberries. This Grenache finishes long with mint, warm spices and lingering crushed limestone.
